Welcome to Peacemakers Needed
A hub for ideas, practices, and opportunities that support bridge-building efforts happening around us—locally, globally, in our homes, and in our hearts.
In the Book of Mormon, an elderly King Mosiah addresses his people a final time before his death and offers a template for peace. To those who have “known of [God’s] goodness and tasted of his love”, the King pleads they should always remember “the greatness of God,” and enter “the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come.”
If they do this, the King says, they would “be filled with the love of God.” They would “not have a mind to injure one another, but to live peaceably.”
Note that he does not direct them to “live peaceably.” He directs them to be humble, and to remember the greatness of God. As he describes it,“living peaceably” is the gift that spontaneously arises from this collective humility. We arrive at peace, then, by remaining anchored in our mutual dependence on God.
